~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~With December being upon us and the end of the year hastily approaching, I am ready to announce the best song I've came across in 2024, and so...This year's winner for Song Highlight of the Year is...
"Somber Waves" by Whitewoods
One fateful night.Just one fateful night....with some friends in the middle of a call, just talking far into the early morning and having a good time,I came across "Somber Waves".I could never put into words what I felt on that first listen, but what I am about to say, is probably the best I could.It was love at first sight, what started as an original song titled "Where Are You Now" by Dan Siegel; Whitewoods took their song and remastered it, slowed it down, added new sound effects, changed the flow of the song and added just a few lyrics. And although it wasn't much, it just...awakened something in me, the lyrics and the song itself had touched me on a spiritual level, something that a song could never come close to.It gave this feeling of nostalgia, sadness, and loneliness that "Somber Waves" perfectly captured and why it resonated so deeply with me. It gave me something that I could cope with how rough 2023 and 2024 was, all the hardships I had faced, and even the good things in between, it gave me an escape. It gave me something to relate to, it calmed the flurry of emotions inside of me and summarized it so neatly.It took me to whole other world.It was, in essence...perfect.No song ever in my entire life has achieved that feeling inside of me.So...it might seem like I'm really giving it so much praise, but it's what I feel like it deserves, even while I'm writing this I'm listening to it again...
over...and over...Thank you Whitewoods, you truly made a masterpiece with this.(P.S.: And kudos to the original sample Dan Siegel, you still made a beautiful piece as well.)-Plague
